Knurling

Knurling is a diamond or straight-line grip pattern cut into metal on a lathe, most often seen on the barrels of clickers and the edges of sliders. Beyond grip, knurling affects how a device wears in a pocket over time — deep knurling polishes down to a smoother finish faster than a light pattern does, and can also affect perceived loudness by changing how the surface interacts with fabric.
