How we measure fidget devices

Every measured field on this site follows the same rule: a blank field is more honest than a borrowed number. We don't fill in a spec because a listing said so, or because a similar device usually measures a certain way. We fill it in after we've physically handled the device ourselves.

What we measure, and how

• Weight — a 0.01g precision scale, device alone, no packaging.
• Length / width / thickness — digital calipers, to the millimetre.
• Magnets — opened or tested with a small steel target where possible; recorded as present/absent, not counted, unless the count is externally verifiable.
• Bearing — identified by type where the device can be opened without damaging it.
• Spin time — a single standard flick, stopwatch, same surface every time.
• Loudness — phone SPL meter at arm's length during one deployment. See loudness.
• Pocketability and meeting-safe — qualitative, from a full day of actual carry.

Why most fields are still null

We're early. As of this writing we've indexed devices from public listings but haven't yet put calipers or a scale on any of them — the current state is honest about that. A null field isn't a gap we're embarrassed about; it's the site working as designed. Competing sites fill every field immediately by copying the seller's page, which is exactly the practice this site exists to not do.
